Vahab Mirrokni is a Google Fellow and VP at Google Research, where he co-leads Gemini Data and multiple Agentic and RSI efforts within Gemini and AntiGravity. More broadly, his team drives impact in Algorithms and Optimization areas including GenAI algorithms, large-scale machine learning, data mining, market algorithms, and graph learning.
He received his PhD from MIT in 2005 and his B.Sc. from Sharif University of Technology in 2001. He joined Google Research in 2008, after holding research positions at Microsoft Research, MIT and Amazon.com.
He is the co-winner of a range of paper awards at KDD, ACM EC, PODS, SoCG, Informs OM, and SODA. He also co-led Gemini efforts in achieving Gold medals in IMO’25 and ICPC’25.
Previously, his research areas included algorithms, distributed and stochastic optimization, and computational economics. More recently, he has been working on GenAI algorithms including quantization, sparsity, data and model efficiency, and new architecture design for continual and adaptive learning.
